Cliff Gorman Memorial Cup! Who is Cliff Gorman?

On Friday, teams in the West Coast Senior Hockey League will begin the quest for the Cliff Gorman Memorial Cup. The cup was donated by Bishop Financial Services when the league was launched last March.

Who is Cliff Gorman?

Cliff Gorman was born in PEI in 1927. He moved to Corner Brook in 1955.

He wasn't in the west coast city for long before becoming involved in hockey. He was a dedicated volunteer with the Corner Brook Hockey Association. In 1972, Gorman began a long tenure at the helm of the association. During his Presidency, the Royals captured 4 Herder Memorial Trophies, emblematic of senior hockey supremacy in the province, 2 Eastern Canadian Bolton Cups, and the Allan Cup, the highest prize in senior amateur hockey in the country.

Gorman certainly made his mark on hockey in the province. In 1996, he was named to the NL Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builder Category.
